WHAT WE DO

Half Life Media provides creative video and media services to organizations by identifying unique stories and presenting them in a compelling way. We believe that the future of communication is video. We work with small businesses and non-profits to create documentary-style promotional and commercial videos that engage audiences without breaking the bank.

WHY DOCUMENTARY STYLE?
Audiences are becoming more and more versed and in tune with videos and social media marketing tactics. They can sense very quickly what they are about to watch and make quick decisions on whether to invest their time.  A good story still stands the test of time though.  (We’re still talking about Shakespeare centuries later after all.) We believe that presenting your organization through what feels like a documentary film will pique your targeted audience’s interest enough to have them watch the entire film, and then to take the next step to learn more.

The important question to always ask is “so what?” Why does any one care about what you’re doing? There is something that makes your organization unique and that’s what we help you present to the world.

EXAMPLE OF DOCUMENTARY-STYLE

WHAT DOES HALF LIFE MEAN?
Half-life is the time required for any specified property to decrease by half. Typically the term makes you think of carbon-14 dating and isotopes and radioactivity. But everything has a half-life. We like the phrase because it's a constant, personal challenge: to push the limit on how long the media we create remains current and useful for our clients.

How We Do It

If a picture is worth
a thousand words,
then a video is worth

a whole lot more.

How We Do It

If a picture is worth
a thousand words,
then a video is worth

a whole lot more.

HOW WE DO IT

Our approach is to spend a good amount of time getting to know you and your organization before we even begin to film. This getting to know you phase saves a lot of time down the road.

STEP 1: PRE-PRODUCTION

We begin by visiting your place of business, informally interviewing key staff, customers, and sometimes even vendors, off camera. We spend time just looking, finding the best visual representations of what you do. We distill all this information and select the most compelling aspect of your story. We write a rough script and create storyboards (sketches of shots we have in mind) that will be our roadmap for the next step.

STEP 2: PRODUCTION

With a script and storyboards in hand, we know exactly what the plan is for our shoot day. Each project is different, but we typically only interview one or two individuals on camera and then spend the rest of the time filming b-roll.  (B-roll is all of the shots that we use to cover the interview.) Most of our projects are filmed in one day. Again, we are able to do this with proper planning beforehand to make sure we can efficiently capture all of the required visual elements.

STEP 3: POST-PRODUCTION

Remember that script we created during pre-production? Now we take all of the footage and interviews and edit it together to create a short documentary-style film about your organization. During this step, we perform finishing touches (color correction, audio mix, animated graphics, etc) that take the video to the next level.
